About Us

Bourne End Film Makers (BEFM) is an amateur video makers club and members meet on a regular basis to discuss and produce films.  We are a very friendly club, set up to share knowledge, experience and help each other improve our film making skills and techniques.  Meetings involve practical exercises, competitions, production meetings and talks by external speakers.  Several social events are also held during the year to which friends and family members are cordially invited.  The full meetings programme can be found on our Programme Page.

We make a variety of films including storyline, documentary, general interest and personal films.  Films are made by individuals, or collaboratively in groups, and can be entered into internal competitions.  They may also be considered for entry into external competitions. Major club films are also produced, involving as many members as possible.

We have been successful at wining competitions against other local clubs, Staines Video Makers and Reading Film & Video Makers.  BEFM is also a member of the IAC and we enter films into the annual IAC North Thames Region Knockout competition, formerly known as the Triangle and 4x4 competition.  In recent years we reached the final round twice but in May 2017 we were declared the overall winners when we won the final knockout round.  Click here for more information about the IAC and the IAC North Thames Region which provides a very informative on-line newsletter.

John Barlow

We are very fortunate to have as our current President, John Barlow, who spent most of his working life with the BBC as a Cameraman and eventually became Head of the BBC Film Unit based in Ealing.  After early retirement John made films for various charities and became heavily involved in many local Advisory Groups and Review Panels.

John is a Founder member of the Institute for Training in Television Production and a Fellow and ex-Chairman of the Guild of Television Cameramen.  His advice, guidance and support, since he became President in 2010, has been invaluable.
